Two hours later down a backcountry dirt road and we were there: a tiny trailhead tucked deep in the heart of the Purcells. 3-4 hours to the lake and if you go the glacier at the end another 1-1.5 hours (lots of boulders) About 75 minutes to get to the trail head from Invermere, the roads there for the most part are logging roads with the last section of a couple km to the trail head are a little rougher… Best to have four-wheel-drive or high clearance vehicle although some smaller cars made it up. The Purcell Mountains are located in one of the last pristine wilderness areas in Canada. At 22 km turn left at the Y-junction to stay on Horsethief FSR. This stretch is one of the highlights of the hike, the creek at this point looks like a kilometre long waterfall as it rushes down the mountain.
